While most of the Texans were likely sleeping last night, some our patriots was at the Texas Capitol past 1 a.m. as the Senate was taking strong action on protecting privacy and safety in bathrooms.
The clock is ticking on the 85th Texas Legislature, and there are two things you can help us do to save unborn lives and protect privacy in this final full week of the session:
1. Contact your House and Senate members to let them know you support strong privacy protection language!
Here’s what’s happening: The House and Senate are headed to what’s known as a conference committee on SB 2078. The bill contains a House amendment (the Rep. Paddie Amendment) that is insufficient and does not prevent boys from entering the girls’ showers, bathrooms and locker rooms. Senate leaders want language that actually solves this growing problem and stops public schools from allowing boys to enter girls’ showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms. Read the pro-family coalition letter published by txvaluesaction.org with more details. Additionally, around 1:15 a.m. this morning, the Senate added an amendment to HB 4180 by Sen. Lois Kolkhorst which contains strong and necessary language from SB 6, which calls for privacy in restrooms, showers, and locker rooms
2. Contact SB 1 Conference Committee members to let them know you support pro-life action in the state budget!
Two important pro-life amendments to the state budget (SB 1) are in danger of being stripped by a conference committee. Tell the SB 1 Conference Committee members to: 1) Fund the Alternatives to Abortion program at the full $38.3 million for two years, and 2) Adopt the House version of the Pro-Life rider (page IX-34) to eliminate state funding for abortion providers and their affiliates (i.e. Planned Parenthood).
